Business Tips for Solopreneurs and Entrepreneurs- Simple ways to cut Business Expenses

I once read somewhere that the biggest problem that most people in business have is that they are experts in their field and novices in what it really takes to effectively run a business.

One of the major challenges is the ability to reduce the cost of business operations. I will be sharing a few tips I have compiled from my study of business articles and publications.

1) Buy only what you need. As easy as this sounds,  many people find it hard to stick to their resolve when it comes to purchasing items for business and personal use.  Create a list/budget and stick to it.

2) Always ask for discount from vendors and suppliers. It never hurts to ask. If they decline, there will always be other people willing to offer you discounts.

3) Hire Freelancers. Full time employees usually have a lot of idle time which you end up paying for as salary along with their productive hours. Hiring freelancers is more cost effective. You only pay for the hours they work, they are usually experienced, accomplish more in less time and require little or no supervision. An example is a Virtual Assistant. This is your cue to pick up your phone to call me and hire me πŸ˜‰πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜Š(forget the smileys, I ain't kidding).

4) Hire Interns or Fresh Graduates: Not just any intern or fresh graduate but intelligent, willing to learn, smart and resourceful people.  This helps reduce the cost of employee benefits and salaries as an experienced employee will require more.

5) Buy in bulk,  sensibly though. Buy in bulk only items that have a long shelf life and at night risk of being worthless after a while.

6) Office space. Now get up,  talk a walk around your office. Is the space being properly utilized or you have a lot of junk taking up space?  Or your office isn't well organized and you are taking up more space than necessary? If this applies to you,  do an audit of what you really need and what you don't. Trash the "trashables" and carry out one of the following actions.
a) If you have more space than necessary and you don't need the space anytime soon (say between now and the next six months to a year),  begin to search for a smaller office space within your means.
b) If you are a Solopreneur or budding entrepreneur, you have to decide if you can work from home,  a virtual office (only when necessary) or an affordable co-working space.

7) Review your expenses,  identify leakages and cut down on the unnecessary expenses. Also keep track of your expenses occasionally to ensure you are in line with your new goals.

8) Eliminate charges. This is quite simple. You pay your bills on time to avoid extra charges and fines.

9) Cut out paper. Do you really need to print out all your documents? Embrace the use of Electronic File Storage. Google for different options.

10) Lease equipments if you need them for a short term. That is except you think purchasing will serve your interests in the long run. Also, you can buy second hand products from trusted and reliable sellers. Avoid too good to be true deals.

11) Proper time management. It helps you focus on more productive and money yielding aspects of the business.  Time is money,  sounds familiar right?

12) Free software. This has helped my business in so many ways as I have to pay nothing or next to nothing for software. You can google for options.

13) Always find a cheaper way to do things

I hope these points have been helpful. It's important to note that you should be careful in implementing any if the above points as it's important that your customers and ability to make profit are not affected.

Please comment below if you have any more useful tips.

Too scared to make a move..?? This post is for you.

Hello guys,

I came across this wonderful piece by Padebi Ojomo on Facebook (you should search for her on Facebook). She is highly intelligent and comes across as someone who knows her onions. This particular post struck a chord with me and I hope this message hits home and gets someone to make a move. The time to start is now! I encourage you to read, digest and get to work asap.

What 10 things I wished someone had told me when I started my business.

1. Just start. There will never be the right time. You will never feel ready. Just jump. Clarity will come from action. Action dissolves fear. A year from now, you'll wish you had started today.

2. Done is better than perfect.

3. Your mindset is your most precious asset. Take care of it.
Forget what other people think. Don’t try to change or convince naysayers. Instead lead by example, carve out your own path and demonstrated to them there is a better way with your actions not your words.

4. Likes and followers are an illusion of success. A lot of broke people look good on the outside. So stop comparing yourself when you don't know what's really going on behind the scenes.

5. What seems like so much information now will become second nature in no time. In one year, I went from no idea what an optin, hosting or wordpress was to having a optin pages, sales pages, email series, autoresponder, website, traffic, etc.

6. Make your goals non-negotiable. It’s not if, but when. Take steps every day to make your goals come to fruition. Measure your results daily. Don’t feel deflated if you miss the mark, learn from it and keep going.

7. You don’t know it until you implement it. Your results reflect what you know. So, do you know?

8. Trust that you know the answer. Follow your heart and do what makes your heart sing.

9. Don’t ever stop getting uncomfortable. What feels uncomfortable now will soon feel normal. But if you’re not scared or uncomfortable each and every day, then you’re not stretching yourself or growing.

10. Ask for help. Invest in yourself. Not by throwing spaghetti at the wall with every new shiny object. Not by investing in things where the price is right. Not by investing in programs because they are from some big time guru. But invest in an A-Z structured program that will help you with getting booked and getting paid consistently.

Hire others to do what you suck at or dislike. It will save you time and money in the long run.

But never ever think you can outsource your sales and marketing until you master those skills first.

From your greatest fan

Hola Amigos πŸ™‹πŸ™‹πŸ™Œ

I am so excited to start off this blog. It is been a long time coming and I am glad to be finally off the fence on this and begin this journey despite many uncertainties.

Allow me to introduce myself.. My name is Adeola.  I am a freelancer, I provide Virtual Assistant Services. I specialize in Administrative Tasks and Lifestyle Management. I cater to Solopreneurs, Entrepreneurs and Busy Executives who lead busy lives by providing the required administrative support to enable them run their businesses efficiently. My Lifestyle Management role also helps my clients have a great work-life balance through my effective management of their personal lives. I live and work in Lagos, Nigeria. Hence my blog name,  The Lagos Virtual Assistant..Cheesy right πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜›?!

Asides my VA services,  I am a Real Estate Agent for several Real Estate organisations in my locale. I also sell and promote products and services for other entrepreneurs and organizations

I spent a number of years working in the Financial Industry till I decided "Hey, enough with the big corporations" and chose to become a Solopreneur (Major Entrepreneur in a bit πŸ™πŸ‘) by converting my passion into business ideas,  and ultimately established business (es). I am on a path to discovering how to manage my small business(es). On this long path, I have made a few mistakes, learnt many new things which I intend to share with you my awesome readers in subsequent posts.

If you are on the lookout for a serious-no-fun kinda blog, please move to the πŸ‘ˆ πŸ‘ˆ or πŸ‘‰ πŸ‘‰, whichever one pleases you 😁😁 because I like a lot of fun and intend to incorporate loads of fun stuff into my post.

You are welcome and I hope you learn, enjoy, patronize (this is very important 😜😜) and also teach me a thing or two. I will love to read from you and I promise to respond to your messages.

Thank you and I hope y'all have a swell time!
